Social and Political Philosophy Social and Political Philosophy examines the question of how we ought to govern ourselves. Inherent to that question are issues of equality, rights, freedom, justice and power. Political philosophers study the basis of social authority; they examine the grounds on which the exercise of power is justified; and they examine the Foucault's Panopticon The Panopticon was a metaphor that allowed Foucault to explore the relationship between 1.) systems of social control and people in a disciplinary situation and, 2.) the power-knowledge concept. In his view, power and knowledge comes from observing others.
